The village of Cuiseaux, located in Saône-et-Loire in the Burgundy region bordering Franche-Comté, is the birthplace of two internationally renowned painters, Pierre Puvis de Chavannes and Édouard Vuillard, two benevolent figures whose influence has literally transformed this village and its surrounding area into a land of painters.
Since 2012, the village has hosted the Biennale des Arts, which brings together all generations of residents by involving them in the process of creating and installing artworks in the village’s public spaces. Children at the school, senior citizens at the retirement home, women from the village, people with disabilities, and members of various associations are all involved and mobilized to ensure that art truly inhabits the village and fosters community.
This year, the artist Georges Rousse has been invited to create five works in the village, some of which will disappear with the demolition of a building, while others will take their place in the public spaces. In dialogue with him, sculptor Vladimir Skoda places his metal spheres in the municipal basin or the chapel, and a concave mirror beneath the village’s entrance gate. To discover this adventure, we follow Eric, a curious visitor and art enthusiast, who simply guides us from place to place. When art inhabits the village!
