Korean artist Kimsooja has transfigured the Centre Pompidou-Metz space with her exhibit To Breathe, part of the France-Korea year. Glazed surfaces covered with light-diffracting film and floors turned into endless mirrors reframe all sense of horizontality and verticality. Through the projection of a color spectrum accompanied by the artist breathing, space is transformed into an immense three-dimensional tableau; a metamorphosis into a dreamlike, sensitive landscape visitors enter and traverse.

This DVD-book includes the film by Gilles Coudert, images from the exhibit and of other works by Kimsooja, and the essay by art historian and critic Doris von Drathen. It offers insight into Kimsooja’s vital presence on the international artistic scene. The film shows the installation and the exhibition and provides commentary by Kimsooja, Emma Lavigne, director of the Centre Pompidou-Metz, and by visitors to the exhibit.

Texts by Doris von Drathen and Emma Lavigne.
