Ulf Linde was an art critic, museum director and jazz musician, born in Stockholm in 1929 and died in 2013. He authored the second version of the Grand Verre by Marcel Duchamp prepared in 1961 at the request of Pontus Hulten for the “Art in Motion” exhibition held at the Moderna Museet in Stockholm. Ulf Linde devoted nearly 40 years of his life to research on the work by Duchamp. Though he had never seen the original, he worked on creating a copy of the “grand verre”. His work, much more than a simple replica, is above all his understanding and his interpretation of one of the masterpieces of the 20th century. His work was later acknowledged by Marcel Duchamp who signed it “pour copie conforme”. Artist Franck Scurti’s film is built around an interview between Ulf Linde and art historian Hans Maria De Wolf.

Ulf Linde était critique d’art, directeur de musée et musicien de jazz, né en 1929 à Stockholm et décédé en 2013. Il est l’auteur de la seconde version du Grand Verre de Marcel Duchamp exécutée en 1961 à la demande de Pontus Hulten pour l’exposition « Art in Motion », organisée au Moderna Museet à Stockholm. Ulf Linde a passé près de 40 ans à faire des recherches sur l’œuvre de Duchamp. Alors qu’il n’avait jamais vu l’original, il s’est donc attaché à créer une copie du « grand verre ». Plus qu’une simple réplique, il s’agit avant tout de la compréhension et de l’interprétation de l’un des chefs d’œuvre du XXe siècle. L’œuvre a été par la suite reconnue et signée « pour copie conforme » par Marcel Duchamp. Le film de l’artiste Franck Scurti est structuré autour d’un entretien entre Ulf Linde et l’historien d’art Hans Maria De Wolf.
