La Première Image is a public commission by the Centre national des arts plastiques and the Grec – Groupe de recherches et d’essais cinématographiques, produced by the Grec, with the support of Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée.

Jean Breschand is a film-maker, whose works include Le Retour du Monde (2003), L’Aménagement du Territoire (2006) and Joan the Pope (2016). He also wrote the screenplays for Because I Was a Painter (Christophe Cognet, 2014), Kamen (Florence Lazar, 2014) and Anna Karina, Une Destinée à Part (Dennis Berry, 2017). A former Vertigo editor, he has also written a number of critical essays on film (Le Documentaire, l’autre face du cinéma, 2003). He is the chairman of the GREC. Alexandre Castant is an essayist, art critic and teacher. He is the author of La Photographie dans l’œil des passages (2004), Planètes sonores. Radiophonie, arts, cinéma (2007), ImagoDrome, des images mentales dans l’art contemporain (supervised) ; (2010), Journal audiobiographique. Radiophonie, arts, cinéma (2016). He teaches contemporary art history and aesthetics at the ENSA in Bourges, France. Agnès de Cayeux is an artist, researcher, exhibition curator and set designer. She explores the aesthetic and theoretical aspects of information and communication technologies and the critical writing forms they create. Mali Arun, Ismaïl Bahri, Hicham Berrada, Antoine Danis, Maïder Fortuné, Ana Maria Gomes, Daphné Hérétakis, Joachim Olender, Clément Postec, Dania Reymond are artists and film-makers.
